What We Believe

The Bible – 2 Timothy 3:16

The sole basis of our belief is the Bible.  66 books encompassing the Old & New Testaments.  The Bible is wholly & verbally inspired by God in its original manuscripts.  The Bible is, therefore, the infallible divine authority in all matters of faith and practice and is without error in all its teaching.  There are no other writings similarly inspired by God.

God – 2 Corinthians 13:14

There is one God eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son & the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ – Hebrews 1:3

God the Son became flesh in Jesus Christ.  He was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and is fully God and fully man.  His death on the cross was a substitutionary sacrifice to atone for sin and all who believe in Him are declared righteous on the basis of his shed blood.  He arose bodily, ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of the Father, where Christ – the only Mediator between God and man – continually makes intercession for His own.  His return, to receive His own, will be personal visible & bodily.

The Holy Spirit – John 14:26, 1 Corinthians 12:4-7

The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, is God and performs a ministry of conviction, regeneration and sanctification.  He indwells every believer at the point of salvation and equips the members of Christ’s body for ministry through the impartation of spiritual gifts for the building of the church.

Humanity & Salvation – Genesis 12:1, Ephesians 2:8-9

Man and woman were created in the image of God, sinned and consequently experienced not only physical death, but also spiritual death – which is separation from God.  Every human being is born with a sinful tendency.  When he reaches moral responsibility, he becomes a sinner in thought, word and deed.  The salvation of mankind is wholly a work of God’s FREE grace, not the result – in whole or in part – of human works or goodness and must be personally appropriated by repentance and faith.

The Christian Life – Romans 12:1

Every Believer in Christ should be committed to the Lordship of Christ and growing the grace and knowledge of Christ.

The Church – 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

The Church, the body & bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of believers in Christ and manifested in autonomous local congregations.

Church Ordinances – Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26

The two ordinances of the church are baptism & the Lord’s Supper.

Baptism should be administered by immersion to believers upon their confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord’s Supper should be observed regularly in remembrance of Christ’s death and in anticipation of His return.  The elements of the Lord’s Supper are symbolic of His body & blood.

The Eternal State – Revelation 20:12

Both believers and unbelievers will be bodily raised.  All will be judged at the throne of Christ.  The saved will experience everlasting blessedness in eternal life with God; the lost will experience everlasting conscious punishment in eternal separation from God.

PCC’s Values

Our values differ from our Purpose Statement – Proclaim, Produce & Praise – as well as our Doctrinal Statement – What We Believe – in that these items are the underlying reasoning behind our decisions, actions and goals.

Community

Hebrews 10:25  “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free…”

The word “community” was chosen to be part of our name.  We are Pflugerville COMMUNITY Church.  We attach two specific meanings to that word.  First, PCC strives to create spiritual community as a congregation focused on Christ.  We often use the term “family” to describe ourselves in the sense that we care about each other like extended members of our family.  The primary way we seek to create such unity is through an active small group community.  Second, we are a congregation that means to be involved in serving the local community.  Our yearly budget reflects a strong commitment to providing help & hope to people in need in our city.  PCC supports a number of non-profit ministries in the city.  Our most recent community service is the Backpack Friends program in partnership with PfISD.

Unity with other Christian congregations

John 17:20-23  Jesus prays for all believers: “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,21that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one – I in them and you in me – so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

PCC is non-denominational not anti-denominational.  We value our relationships and partnerships with other Christian congregations both locally & internationally.  Our pastoral staff eagerly builds relationships with other local pastors, viewing those pastors as partners in serving the Church & reaching the community.  Two examples of this are the Explore God Campaign from 2013, which was carried out in partnership with hundreds of Central Texas Congregations and the Every Man, Woman & Child initiative developed in 2014 with 9 other local Pflugerville Congregations.

Priority of Ministry to Children & Students

Matthew 19:14 – Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

From the very first Elders’ retreat in 1996, it was evident that God had given this congregation special gifting for the ministry to children & students.  PCC has two full time staff positions; Lead Pastor & Student Ministry Pastor.  PCC makes a huge investment of volunteers to fulfill this ministry.  In 2014, our budget committed more to Student Ministry & Children’s Ministry combined than any other specific ministry in the church.  Ministry to children & students will remain a high priority.

Gospel Centered

2 Timothy 2:8 “Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel…”

We are committed to “keeping the Main Thing – the main thing” and that is the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We will not make major issues out of minor theological disagreements.  PCC will not endorse political candidates or any party, nor will we be drawn into political debates.  We expect that every member will vote as the Lord leads them.

Everyone has a gift to offer...

1 Corinthians 12:27 “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

PCC has never been a congregation where 20% do 80% of the serving, teaching & ministry.  We believe everyone has a gift , a skill, or an experience to offer.  The first action of every new member is to complete the “Passion Form” that identifies those gifts, skills & experiences.  We believe that serving honors God, blesses others and is a primary means of growing our faith.
